Transforming Anger and Resistance in the Initial Interview

    SPEAKER: Shawn Christopher Shea, M.D.

Objectives:

  1. Be able to creatively transform angry encounters into meaningful interactions
  2. Be able to utilize Leston Haven's "counter-projective" technique for deflecting guardedness and suspiciousness
  3. Be able to utilize content, process, and sidetracking techniques for transforming resistance
  4. Be able to describe and utilize practical strategies for handling awkward personal inquiries about the clinician's religious beliefs, sexual history, or other questions asked to put the clinician "on-the-spot".
