Objectives:

  1. Understand the theory of object relations as conceived from a practical and no nonsense approach (including Kohut and Kernberg).
  2. Understand the role of object relations development as it interplays with the client's sense of safety in the initial interview.
  3. Be able to apply object relations theory to the following critical interview tasks: engaging the client, uncovering serious personality pathology, and determining the number of treatment sessions.
