WORKSHOP TITLE:
The Delicate Art of the Initial Interview: Traps, Roadblocks, Strategies, and Solutions
SPEAKER: Shawn Christopher Shea, M.D.

(All techniques and strategies are directly demonstrated by the viewing, discussion, and lively dissection of a videotaped 60 minute initial interview performed by the speaker.)
Objectives:
- Understand and be able to utilize the principles of facilic analysis (an innovative and practical paradigm for efficiently structuring interviews while sensitively attending to empathy and engagement).
- Be able to utilize a flexible strategy for arriving at a sound DSM IV differential diagnosis in sixty minutes, while gathering a comprehensive biopsychosocial history.
- Understand the principles behind writing a forensically sound and clinically useful record of the initial assessment.
