The Art of Making an Axis II Diagnosis in the Initial Interview
SPEAKER: Shawn Christopher Shea, M.D.
LENGTH: One and One-Half Hours
Objectives:
- Understand the possibilities and limitations of personality assessment in the initial 60 minute interview.
- Understand and utilize the following three techniques for limiting the field of diagnostic possibilities on Axis II during the initial interview: signal symptoms, signal signs, and probe questions.
- Utilize a flexible strategy for arriving at a differential diagnosis on Axis II of the DSM-IV, when under the tight time constraints so common to everyday practice (patient videotape shown).
